We Owe it All to Love

there are so many of them
swarming legions of half men
all with hands out and palms up
with empty pockets
or bags full of baubles

worth less then the worry they cause
when they leave you wondering
if they are even real
or just robots
programmed for a metallic romance
pre-approved courtships like credit cards
you can count on
petty cash
easy come
easy go
they charge

and there are so many of them

countless woman left unaccountable

– female creatures stocked full with breast

fragile beasts with legs spread like sheets, like eagle wings

unbalanced, they succeed in flying only into the dirt

their clouds are mud and i step over them on my way to you

so many scribbling bad checks – they hold not my interest

together we cast off the shackles of their homogenizing stares

together we embrace with a love unprepared

toether we sit still

still human.

still free
