WELL, COME BACK, LOVE

gentle words in subtle whisper
delicate fingertips
slight caress
barely felt except for the waves deep under the skin

love is an ocean we carry in our bellies
in its craters peaceful pulsing of warm liquids throughout

love in eyes clenched closed tight
love in minds open like a babies
love in hearts unbreakable

love in shattered glass

love gooey, sticky, uncertain, unavoidable and unseekable

love found when you do not look
love lost when you hold on tight
love never needing an intention
love taking commitment and plans
love is a compliment
an insult
an ambiguity
an ancient friend we meet every day, everywhere, and know nothing about

love

it coats our mouths
wets are tongues
it helps us speak

it makes us real

when we have too much

we swallow it or leave it on the ground

love, how silly it is in all its seriousness, it serenade the silent
with serendipitous glee

i wait for coincidence

it arrives as soon as i leave

love is a treasure of the righteous
taken as spoils by the wicked

then returned to the temple

in time for the sacrifice of the innocent beast

love like music
like dancing
like death

love

the inevitable we chase
and run from as soon as it arrives

love
you are invited
never to return

unless you stay
