i sing for you this prayer
as i reach for the heavens
with thoughts of God made real in my mind
with memories of what never was
free from my future
i un-visualize
your face, your arms, your curves
your smile, your laugh, your mischief
your grimace, your sneer, your neglect
your silent secrets,
your screaming tantrums regarding my sanity
your coming then going
your kisses kept behind clenched teeth
i sing for you this prayer
as i jettison your filth
as i cast off the shackles of your shallow beauty
and stand up right,
free from the humiliation
of your innuendo
your black truth and white lies,
your rare and exotic musical instruments
gathering dust,
your drums less beaten than I,
your poems and pictures strewn about among the waste
your nights with junkies and hookers
your cold pots, cold bed, cold lips
your frigid womb left vacant
i sing for you this prayer to heaven
may you burn in Hell and not my heart
my love that never was.
